Calo is a direct-to-consumer business that delivers personalized meal plans for busy individuals, powered by advanced nutritional algorithms. Over six months, I had the privilege of leading the newly formed Product Design team, focusing on establishing a robust DesignOps framework to streamline and elevate the company’s design processes.

One of the most critical steps in organizing an existing product is to thoroughly understand its current state. This involves not only eagerly reviewing all available documentation and engaging directly with users but also analyzing the product itself. To gain a clear picture of the project’s scope, we conducted a series of UI inventories for the iOS app. These inventories served as the foundation for our work, providing essential insights and clarity before even beginning to design the first wireframe.
A segment of CALO’s UI Library for iOS products, built with interconnected Figma libraries that seamlessly support and serve dozens of project files, ensuring consistency and efficiency across the design process.
The main delivery view for the iOS app, where I personally refined the typography system, macro components, and day selector. These enhancements were designed to streamline the user experience, reducing the time and effort required for users to plan their next meals efficiently.
This feature is triggered intelligently, based on the estimated time the user has consumed their meal—be it breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The rating system is highly customizable, allowing users to pause or tailor ratings for a specific meal occurrence, or apply feedback to all meals connected to a particular dish and/or ingredient. This flexibility ensures a more personalized and user-centric experience.
This feature allows users to customize their preferences down to the nutritional component level, referred to as “Ingredient” to keep the language simple and user-friendly. Users can apply restrictions with remarkable flexibility, tailoring their meal plans to meet their dietary needs and preferences seamlessly.
An enhanced feedback feature that enables users to provide detailed, specific input about their meal experience, ensuring a more personalized and refined meal planning process for CALO.
An experimental feature designed for power users, enabling them to create personalized meals using a “Lego-style” system. This tool allows customization down to the macro-nutrient level, empowering users to tailor meals precisely to their dietary needs.
With CALO, users can easily swap meals, offering flexibility to fit their preferences or schedule. Swaps can be made between any planned meal and any custom or available meal prepared for the current or following day, ensuring convenience and personalization.
